Where we are, plainly

We are early, and there is no advantage in dressing that up. The company is independently funded and has no outside investors. Our first product is in launch preparation, further products are in development, and we have deliberately not announced them.

What is not early is the engineering standard. Automated testing, accessibility measurement, security review, database isolation and a written incident procedure are in place from the first product rather than promised for a later one — the details are on what we build.

The long view

Most of the software that small operators actually run their businesses on was designed for much larger companies and sold down the market, or it was never built at all and the work happens in a spreadsheet. That gap does not close on its own, and it is wide enough to hold a portfolio of products rather than a single one.

The plan is straightforward and slow: build one product properly, operate it, learn what generalises, and use the parts that do — costing engines, document handling, dispatch, billing — to make the next one faster to build than the last. A decade of that compounds into something a single application never could.

How we decide

• Own the product, not the invoice

  We do not take contract work. Every hour goes into software we own and operate, which means we carry the consequences of our own decisions — the support load, the outage, the refund. That is the only reliable way to keep incentives pointed at the person using the thing.

• Ship narrow, then stay

  A product should do one valuable thing completely rather than ten things adequately. Once it ships we keep running it. We are not looking for a quick exit from anything we start; the portfolio is the plan.

• Be honest about numbers

  Our software tells people what something is really worth, including the costs that are easy to leave out. We have removed our own features for inflating an answer. A tool that flatters you is worse than no tool, because it gets believed.

• Announce when it is usable

  No product appears on this site before someone outside the company can use it. We would rather look smaller than we are than describe something that does not exist yet.
